UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein is one of a total of 33 national UNICEF committees. They all have the task of informing about the work of the children’s relief organization, collecting donations for the programs and working for the implementation of children’s rights. The Committee for UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein was founded in 1959 – at that time still under the name Swiss Committee for UNICEF – as an association. UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein is financed exclusively by private donations. An agreement with UNICEF International obliges UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein to make the donations available for international programs within 18 months.
The supreme body of UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein is the Assembly of Delegates. The delegates are elected by the members for a period of four years and work voluntarily and unpaid. Among other things, the Assembly of Delegates appoints the Board of Directors and the Commission members and is responsible for the strategic and normative leadership of the Committee.
